Facts on the Great One
The Great One began his professinal career in 1978 with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association. He then was traded to the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL, also in 1978. Wayne led the Oilers to four Stanley Cup championships in 1984, 1985, 1987, and '88. He was then traded in 1989 to the L.A Kings where he played seven seasons untill he was traded to the St.Louis Blues at the end of the '95 season. His career in St.Louis didn't last that long and then he got traded to the New York Rangers, where he plays to this day.
Wayne led the league in scoring nine times from 1981-1987 and in 1990 and '91. He was also named the NHL's most valuble player from 1979-1987 and in 1989. Wayne is the all-time points leader in the NHL,and surpassed Gordie Howe for the most goals in 1994.
